New Zealand teenager charged with distributing mosque rampage livestream

Abdul Aziz: The man who saved lives by running at the Christchurch gunman

"This is a killer", Alabi said and shouted at the congregation of more than 80 people to get down.

Tarrant, an Australian citizen who lived in New Zealand, appeared in court on Saturday where the judge read one murder charge and said more charges would likely follow.

Aziz said the shooter opened fire when he threw a credit card machine at him and then ducked between parked cars.

At about 1.40pm (local time) a gunman entered the Al Noor Mosque in central Christchurch and opened fire, before driving about 5 kilometres across town and attacking the Linwood mosque.

"He had on army clothes".

"I told them 'you guys go inside, I will be alright, '" he said. "When he swore at me, I knew that he's not the good guy", Aziz told Reuters.

When he realized the mosque was being attacked, he ran toward the gunman, picking up a credit card machine as a makeshift weapon.

The other man, he said, picked up the machine gun and smashed it into the gunman's auto windscreen.

He then picked up a gun dropped by Tarrant and pulled the trigger, but it was empty.

A man pays his respects at a memorial site for victims of the mosque shootings at the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch. "I tried to save him but unfortunately he had already passed away, so I closed his eyes and heard more shots being fired, so I ran", he said.

Jorja Tater, 16, said she came to the vigil to remember her classmate and friend Hamza Mustafa, who was one of the victims. He said the suspect ran to his vehicle and got in, which is when he threw a gun at the auto.

Alabi said he stopped prayer when he looked out of the window and spotted a man in black military-style gear and a helmet holding a large gun, mistaking him for a police officer.

Speaking of the terror attack, Alabi said that he heard a voice outside the mosque and made a decision to stop the prayer and peek outside the window.

Abdul Aziz has said he didn't like to be called a hero but for an entire nation, he is.

On hearing gunfire outside the mosque, Lateef allegedly screamed at worshipers to go down so as to take cover.

Social Media Companies Race To Take Down Video Of New Zealand Shootings
Three of the arrests are believed to be directly related to the attacks , with the fourth's involvement still being determined. The gunman reportedly live streamed the entire incident, unverified footage of which has been circulating on social media.

Aziz said when he came back to the mosque, everyone was frightened.

"I told them, 'Brother, you are safe now, get up, he is gone". Bravely grabbing him he snatched away his weapon and ran behind him.

Without that kind of courage, the death toll in Christchurch could have been much worse.

Mr Peters, whose New Zealand First party has previously opposed changes, said he backed the prime minister fully.

Aziz, who is from Kabul, Afghanistan and only moved to New Zealand 2 and a half years ago, had four children in the mosque.

More heroes have come to light as investigators pieced together the incident.

Hundreds of flowers were piled up amid candles and notes of grief outside the Al Noor mosque. His son, Talha Rashid, also lost his life in the same attack. Both were killed in the attack.

"We have to be absolutely clear on the cause of death and confirm their identity before that can happen", Mr Bush said.

Relatives and family members of Naeem Rashid comfort each other during a condolence gathering at the family's home in Abbottabad, Pakistan. "That's part of humanity, to help another human", he said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there would be an investigation into the Government Communications Security Bureau, Security Intelligence Service, police and immigration officials.

In total, the gunman's heinous actions took the lives of 50 people and injured another 50.

"The family of the Australian man arrested in Christchurch continues to assist police with their inquiries".

It is on Friday, shortly before 14 o'clock, as the Imam Latef Alabi listen to in front of the mosque, suddenly screams.

About 100 people were reportedly at the mosque when the shooting began. He saw him standing and shot him through the window.

"I chased him", Aziz said.
