First Facebook, now Google’s internal iOS apps are blocked by Apple

"We've been upfront with users about the way we use their data in the app, we have no access to encrypted data in apps and on devices, and users can opt out of the program at any time".

Apple offers enterprise certificates to large companies like Google and Facebook for the objective of distributing apps internally, amongst the companys employees that facilitate their jobs.

Employees at Alphabet Inc's Google could not access test versions of iPhone apps they were making, or use internal apps related to transportation scheduling and food, the people said. Recently, Apple cracked down on Facebook as well. Facebook did not say whether it agreed to any conditions for the certificate restoration.

Apple restored Google's access to the software by the end of the working day on Thursday. It also told workers to install the public versions of apps from the app store.

"After Apple's revocation, employees inside Facebook became furious with the Onavo team, according to four people familiar with the company's deliberations", the report read. WhatsApp was not affected. The app comes with Apple's enterprise developer certificate granted to Google and has been distributed to a "panel" selected and maintained in partnership with the research firm GfK.

"Apple's view is that we violated their terms by sideloading this app, and they decide the rules for their platform, We've worked with Apple to address any issues; as a result, our internal apps are back up and running", the memo reads. In Google's statement, the company admits that there has been "a temporary disruption", seemingly confirming the rumor is true. Their functionality has since been restored, alongside the company's enterprise certs.
