Netflix To Crackdown On Netflix Password Sharing

Company uses AI to catch people sharing Netflix passwords with friends

Then there are the freeloaders who get access to video streaming services through their friends and relatives which have premium accounts with more concurrent user allowance.

At CES 2019 in Las Vegas earlier this week, video software provider Synamedia unveiled a new AI-based service created to crack down on password sharing.

Well, not anymore. If a password is shared, such cases will be hunted down by a new service introduced by a United Kingdom company Synamedia. That may be the case for accounts with credentials that have been sold off to many users online.

A Synamedia spokesman reportedly said "casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore".

Synamedia cites statistics from media research firm Magid, which say that 26 percent of millennials share passwords for video streaming services.

The system is being tested and in the future it will be offered to services like Netflix and HBO. Apparently, it's smart enough to know if the same user is simply watching content in different locations.

The CDC states some individuals may have vomiting and diarrhea, though these symptoms are more common in children than adults. Each year there is a different vaccine , and the vaccinations protect people from several strains of flu.

It takes into account a range of factors, like where an account is being accessed from, what time it's used, what content is being watched and by what device, etc.

"Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium, shared service with a greater number of concurrent users", Racine said. Netflix's CEO Reed Hastings has previously expressed no concern over the issue, noting that it's part of what makes streaming services so desirable.

The Credentials Sharing Insight software could have a major impact.

Synamedia's machine learning program, called Credentials Sharing Insight, looks at where an account is being used, when it is being used, what content is being streamed, and what devices are being used to stream that content.

Apparently there are "a number of firms" now testing the algorithm, but Synamedia is not naming names. The software works by deciphering unusual or extreme patterns by users of streaming service accounts.

Synamedia says its AI has already begun trials.
