Thai police say they won't deport Saudi woman stopped in Bangkok airport

Will Be Killed If Sent Back: Saudi Woman Stopped From Entering Thailand

An 18-year-old Saudi woman who said her family wants to kill her barricaded herself inside an airport hotel in Bangkok to prevent being expelled by Thai immigration authorities who on Monday halted a plan to put her on a plane to Kuwait.

She is now said to have barricaded herself in a hotel room in the airport's transit zone, and is facing deportation to her home country.

Thai officials said it will be the teenager's decision on whether to see her father or not.

But when al-Qunun arrived in Thailand, she was stopped and her passport was taken from her.

But while in the hotel room, Alqunun barricaded herself in and posted a video to social media.

She claimed she fled Saudi Arabia amid fears her family would kill her for renouncing Islam. She also said she was once detained in a bedroom for six months after she cut her hair, according to Human Rights Watch.

Said culture and guardianship policy requires women to have permission from a male relative to work, travel, marry, and even get some medial treatment. Saudi officials say they have had nothing to do with Alqunun's case and are not demanding her return, and that the controversy is strictly a family matter.

"We are very grateful that the Thai authorities did not send back (Qunun) against her will and are extending protection to her", he said. "I'm in real danger", she said.

"I'm afraid, my family WILL kill me".

The Thai government "needs to explain why diplomats from Saudi Arabia are allowed to walk in closed areas of the Bangkok airport, seizing one of their citizen's passports", he said.

Ultimately, though, Goldberg seemed to give Ocasio-Cortez more encouragement than condemnation. Taxing Americans excessively must be the "morally right" thing to do in her world.

"The Australian Embassy in Thailand has made representations to both the Thai Government and the Bangkok office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to seek assurances that Ms al-Qunun can access the UNHCR's refugee status determination process in Thailand", the statement said.

Her planned forced departure Monday morning was averted as she stayed in her room, with furniture piled up against the door, photos she posted online showed. This is their (Saudi Arabia's) internal affairs.

"She is under the care of the UNHCR now but we also sent Thai security to help take care (of her)", the head of Thailand's Immigration Police Maj.

Rahaf just send me this, she just wants you to make sure she is on the hotel, and she still needs help and protection. "My family threatens to kill me for the most trivial things", the young woman, identified as 18-year-old Rahaf al-Qunun, told Reuters on Sunday.

A copy of Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun's passport, which she says was removed from her when she landed in Thailand.

Ms Mohammed al-Qunun tweeted that her father had arrived, "which anxious and scared me a lot", but said she felt safe "under UNHCR protection with the agreement of Thailand authorities".

The teenager had fled her family who were on holiday in Kuwait, arriving in Thailand on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia's embassy in Thailand denied reports that Riyadh had requested the extradition of the women. Dina Ali Lasloom, 24, was en route from Kuwait via the Philippines but was taken back to Saudi Arabia from Manila airport by her family.

"They won't let me drive or travel".

She said she believed she was stopped after her family appealed to Kuwait Airways.
