Facebook's Zuckerberg takes a dip in net worth

Facebook Has Another Data Privacy Problem This Time Involving Amazon Netflix And More

Facebook is being sued by the DC attorney general over allegations it failed to safeguard the personal data of its users. "It's also curious that just a week ago, it was reported that Facebook hired deeply partisan strategy firms to conduct opposition research calling into question the notion that this company operates with a non-partisan view", said Derrick Johnson, president of the NAACP.

Facebook used contact lists from the partners, including Chinese company Huawei, which American officials consider a security threat because of its connections to China - to gain deeper insight into people's relationships, TheNYT's report notes, citing internal company records.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday by Karl Racine, the attorney general for the District of Columbia. Facebook has already been battered this year in the markets as the data privacy scandal unfolded.

"Facebook put users at risk of manipulation by allowing companies like Cambridge Analytica and other third-party applications to collect personal data without users' permission".

The action appears to be the first from a US prosecutor since revelations about were first reported in March.

After the revelations about Cambridge Analytica, congressional hearings were held and Facebook changed what sorts of data it lets outside developers access. "That's almost half of the people that live in the District of Columbia".

Judge Declares ObamaCare Unconstitutional, Trump Celebrates on Twitter
Trump tweeted . "Now Congress must pass a STRONG law that provides GREAT healthcare and protects pre-existing conditions". White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said: "We expect this ruling will be appealed to the Supreme Court ".

"Every time we see another lawsuit, or investigation, it helps keep attention on what has been happening and should help create a framework for holding Facebook accountable", said Mike Chapple, an associate teaching professor of information technology, analytics and operations at the University of Notre Dame.

The Facebook COO said that other misinformation related to voting - including false claims of polling place closures, long lines, and wait times - is proactively sent to third-party fact-checkers for review.

"It looks like they are throwing spaghetti against the wall and seeing what sticks", she said. Since then, Facebook's share price has recovered slightly, meaning that Time magazine's Money predicts that he is set to lose about $15 billion this year.

Some of the lawsuits allege Facebook misled investors as its privacy problems unfolded.

Sen. John N. Kennedy (R-La.) joined Bill Hemmer on "America's Newsroom" Wednesday to react to a bombshell report on Facebook giving big tech companies "intrusive access" to the personal data of its 2.2. billion users. In addition to threatening Facebook's reputation, the suit could potentially cost the company billions.
