Mueller: Ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort lied, broke plea agreement

Mueller accuses Manafort of breaking plea agreement by lying

Prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller's office said Monday that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort violated his plea agreement with the government by lying to federal investigators "on a variety of subject matters". She also noted that this development is not a win for Mueller - it likely means they did not get what they hoped to gain from Manafort's cooperation.

Prosecutors say in a new court filing that after Manafort agreed to truthfully cooperate with the investigation, he "committed federal crimes" by lying about "a variety of subject matters".

"He believes he has provided truthful information and does not agree with the government's characterization or that he has breached the agreement", Manafort's lawyers said in the same filing. But the announcement raised the possibility that President Donald Trump could again see Manafort as an ally and antagonist of Mueller, and consider pardoning him.

Deadlocked charges from the previous trial were to be dismissed if there was "successful co-operation" with the special counsel.

"Given the conflict in the parties" positions, there is no reason to delay the sentencing herein, and he asks the Court to set a sentencing date in this matter, ' they said.

He faces multiple years in prison.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is probing Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election and possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign, said in the filing that Mr Manafort lied to investigators in a series of interviews after signing a plea agreement.

Manafort, a longtime Republican political consultant ran the Trump campaign.

The 29-year-old has scored once and provided two assists in nine Premier League appearances this season. "For example, Luke Shaw". They are a strong team, are competitive and will fight for a Champions League position for sure.

One of Manafort's closest business contacts for several years has been Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russia-based political operative who prosecutors have alleged has ties to the same Russian military intelligence service that allegedly hacked the Democrats.

Instead, the filing suggests that the sides have been wrangling over whether Manafort was fulfilling his cooperation duties - with Mueller ultimately concluding he wasn't.

Manafort, who worked for the Trump campaign for almost six months in the middle of 2016, agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy against the United States and another count of obstruction of justice in a deal to avert a second trial on money laundering and illegal lobbying charges.

The agreement pertains to one of two cases against Manafort.

Manafort has been held in a detention centre in Virginia since June.

The filing came after Manafort talked in detail to prosecutors before his plea, and despite numerous visits by him and his lawyers to prosecutors' offices.

Manafort was convicted on 8 counts in the Eastern District of Virginia and sentencing in that case is scheduled for early February.
