Trump blasts ongoing Florida vote count

Marco Rubio: Democrats Are Trying to Steal Florida Senate Race by Counting All the Votes

But in Florida, where incumbent Democratic Sen. The Nelson-Scott race, as of Friday afternoon, was within 0.18 percentage point, with Scott holding a 14,985 lead with 8.2 million votes counted.

The Scott campaign was critical of Nelson for bringing in an outside attorney to push for a recount.

By law, any race with a lead of 0.5 percent or less triggers a mandatory machine recount.

"Well it could be because if you look at Broward and Palm Beach to a lesser extent, if you look at Broward County, they have had a awful history", the president told reporters on the White House South Lawn.

"It's unacceptable that SOE Susan Bucher says she will not comply with the court order to submit overvotes and undervotes to the Palm Beach County Canvassing Board for review", it read.

"FDLE is working with the Department of State and we will investigate any allegations of criminal activity or fraud", FDLE spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger told TPM.

Nelson's campaign said Scott's impromptu investigation was "politically motivated".

With the developments raising partisan tensions to fresh highs, Trump weighed in to allege a major corruption scandal was brewing, while fellow Republican Marco Rubio of Florida accused Democrats of a coordinated effort to "steal the election".

"Clearly, Rick Scott is trying to stop all of the votes from being counted and he is impeding the democratic process".

In the now-infamous presidential election of 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court stopped a manual recount in Florida with Republican George W. Bush leading Democrat Al Gore by 537 votes.

There are a number of lawsuits already filed by both sides over the counting process.

Nelson is suing the Florida Secretary of State and demanding the state count every mail-in and provisional ballot deemed to have a so-called "signature mismatch". He said officials performing the count do not have the necessary training to match signatures, and that similar laws in other states have been thrown out.

DeSantis declined to discuss prospects for a recount, telling reporters he was "very proud to be elected".

In addition, protesters took to the sidewalks outside the county's election offices in Lauderhill to demand the ouster of Brenda Snipes, the supervisor of elections in Broward, who has faced a string of accusations over the last decade over mismanaged elections. Nelson wants those ballots to count.

Scott's thin lead over Nelson has narrowed during the vote-counting in the days since he declared victory Tuesday night. Elias replied to the lawsuit by tweeting, "Rick Scott just attacked me as a lawyer from Washington DC as he announced a lawsuit literally in the name of the national Republican Party located in Washington, D.C. Pro tip: when you are attacking the otherside's lawyers, you are losing".

Once all ballots are counted- including mail in and early voting- and the canvassing board completes its work, the first unofficial results are turned over to the state.

"And Rick Scott who won by, you know it was close, but he won by a comfortable margin, every couple of hours it goes down a little bit", he added.

President Trump on Friday blamed Florida's potential recount in its gubernatorial and Senate races on a "woman" with a "horrible history " - as he slammed the Sunshine State's Election Day debacle as a "disgrace".
