Japanese billionaire to be SpaceX's first moon tourist

Who Is SpaceX's Mystery Moon Passenger

Short-hop testing of the BFR's second stage, nicknamed the Big Falcon Spaceship or BFS, could begin as early as next year.

In standard SpaceX fashion, the company held a press event and streamed it live on Youtube to make the announcements.

Musk added that the design of BFR had been changed after intrigued people asked about new renders of the rocket, which appeared online.

Maezawa announced on Monday that he plans to select six to eight artists to accompany him on his journey around the moon.

"This is unsafe. This is not a walk in the park", Elon Musk warned at a crowded press conference at the rocket maker's headquarters near Los Angeles International Airport. No one has visited since the last Apollo mission in 1972.

After people responded with questions, Musk weighed in and confirmed that the render of the Big Falcon Rocket, which is still in development, is new and "intentionally" created to resemble one seen in a classic Tintin comic.

SpaceX is on the verge of announcing the name of person who would be the first private passenger on a trip around the moon.

Antonio Brown reports to team Wednesday
Brown also responded to a tweet from a former Steelers PR staffer questioning if his numbers would be the same on another team. Tomlin said that situation is different because it was one player going after another as opposed to Brown's latest episodes.

Bottom line: Elon Musk and SpaceX headquarters plan to send Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa - with a group of artists - on a loop around the moon and back to Earth in 2023. The first test flights of the BFR rocket are slated for next year.

An off-the-cuff tweet also left investors reeling after Musk said he planned to take Tesla, his electric vehicle company, private. Aerospace experts who follow Musk and SpaceX's activities suggest there could be more iterations before the company's first lunar voyage lifts off the launch pad.

SpaceX has said it will also reveal why the person is going.

The Musk-led space company called the announcement "an important step toward enabling access for everyday people who dream of traveling to space".

The billionaire has reportedly already placed a large deposit on the flight which is helping SpaceX in the development of the BFR launch platform that will actually take the passengers around the Moon. That mission was to use SpaceX's Dragon capsule and Falcon Heavy rocket.

The 180-foot-long (55 m) spaceship can accommodate 100 people, but SpaceX wants to keep numbers way down on the lunar flyaround, Musk said.
