Trump Releases ‘Very Nice’ Letter From Kim Jong Un

North Korea Military

North Korean and USA officials met on Monday to discuss the next steps in repatriating the remains of American soldiers killed during the Korean War.

The two sides agreed to restart field operations in the DPRK to search for the estimated 5,300 Americans missing from the 1950-1953 Korean war, the top USA diplomat said.

The four-paragraph letter - an upbeat missive in which Kim voices hope in a "new future" and speaks of his "invariable trust" in Trump - is dated July 6, the day Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in North Korea for what turned out to be acrimonious talks with Kim's regime.

Major General Michael Minihan, chief of staff for the US-led UN Command, led the United States side and the North Korea's delegation reportedly included a two-star general.

The Pentagon has said North Korean officials have indicated in the past they have the remains of as many as 200 USA troops.

It also granted amnesties in 2012, to celebrate the centennial of the birth of Kim's grandfather and the founder of the North, Kim Il Sung, and the 70th birthday of his father, Kim Jong Il, the same year.

While recovering the war dead would provide Mr Trump a political victory similar to Mr Kim's May release of three living American detainees, it would do little to advance the goal of dismantling the regime's weapons programme.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic also took to social media to hit out Pogba's critics, saying: "Let them talk but the game speaks for itself". Rami added that he was "incredibly happy" and "still could not believe" that they had won the World Cup.

Last month, the United States military moved 100 wooden coffins to the inter-Korean border to prepare for the return of USA war remains, which was a rare tangible commitment the North made during the Trump-Kim summit.

Sunday's meeting came a week after Pompeo traveled to Pyongyang to begin follow-up talks to last month's Singapore summit in which Trump and Kim issued vague aspirations for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula without describing when and how it would occur.

The Korean War raged from 1950 until 1953, though it ultimately ended with a ceasefire agreement rather than a formal peace treaty, meaning it is still technically ongoing. Eight female and eight male athletes from North Korea - including Kim Song I, a bronze medalist at women's singles at the 2016 Rio Summer Games - will form the joint teams with the South's players, Yonhap said.

But a US military official familiar with the matter said last month it was not clear what North Korea might hand over.

At the Singapore summit, Kim Jong Un made a broad commitment to "work toward denuclearisation", but fell short of details on how or when he would dismantle North Korea's nuclear program, which it has pursued in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions.

Pompeo has insisted that a raft of tough economic sanctions imposed on North Korea would remain in place until "final, fully verified denuclearization" occurs.
